 Our Story - Liberty

In 1999, Liberty Church celebrated its 25th year of ministry. Originally we were called Liberty Bible Church and began meeting in a public school building in Birmingham, Alabama in January 1974. Several ministers from Liberty Church in Pensacola, Florida took turns coming to minister.

In May 1974, John Stitt was officially appointed as the first pastor by Rev. Ken Sumrall, then President of the Liberty Fellowship of Churches and Ministers, Inc. The Church moved and met temporarily at the Admiral Benbow Inn. In July 1974, a building was purchased from the Bluff Park Baptist Church and Liberty moved into its first permanent home the following August.

In July 1975, Charles Freeman replaced John Stitt as pastor and remained until C.L. "Bill" Stamp assumed pastoral responsibilities in January 1978. After seeking the Lord, property was purchased and the present building was constructed in 1985. In December 1985, the church began meeting in the present building as Liberty Church.  "Bro Bill" Stamp continued as pastor until March 1996 when Bruce Terry assumed pastoral responsibilities for Liberty Church.
